SOCCEROO striker Mark Viduka is waiting to see who lands the Australia coaching job before he decides if he will carry on playing internationally.

He revealed yesterday that he definitely hasn't retired yet - but a final decision on his future will rest on who gets the top job.

"I will wait and see who the new coach is as everything is up in the air at the moment,” he told Newcastle's Evening Chronicle.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do."

Viduka has 53 caps and 11 goals for the Socceroos and he captained the side through the Asian Cup this year.

But he hasn't returned to the green and gold since, missing the Argentina friendly in September and last weekend's match against Nigeria.

“I am going to have a rest this time round," he said before the last game.

He refuted suggestions that he had made up his mind to retire from international football though.

“No I haven’t," he added. "I have not been involved for the past few games and I’m missing this one out."

Great to be back

Mark Viduka is hoping to banish his injury frustration by getting back on the goal trail.

The Newcastle United striker returned from a six-week lay-off with a calf injury by playing 90 minutes in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Sunderland.

It was just Viduka's seventh appearance for The Magpies since joining the club on a free transfer from Middlesbrough in the summer and he is happy to be back in the side.

And, with Liverpool next on the agenda for Newcastle, the Australian is aiming to use the international break to improve his overall fitness.

Looking forward

"It was great to come back into the team for the derby game and I felt good to be honest," Viduka told the club's official website.

"You just want to play games, but the international break is a good chance to work hard on my fitness ahead of Liverpool.

"It's been frustrating being injured this past month or so, especially because I was in decent form before the injury.

"I've scored three goals so far and I'm hoping to add to that in the next few games.

"December is a busy month, but we're looking forward to it and the draw at Sunderland gives us something to build on after a poor couple of results."

My favourite colour is Black and White. Back in my home town in Melbourne, my favourite Australian Rules Football team was the Magpies (Collingwood F.C.). Their team colours are Black and White, with similar stripes on their jerseys as Newcastle's.

Although the Magpies aren't as good a team as the Miighty Tigers (Richmond F.C.), I still am proud of them.
